Stay Hydrated during Summer

First in the list of dental tips for summer would be to drink water! This is crucial, especially during the summer months so you stay hydrated. Most people are not aware that water is a great way to wash out bacteria that causes plaque. Keeping your mouth moist will also help with your breath.

Watching the amount of sugar, you drink is important as well. Certain drinks you may think are “healthy” such as energy drinks are filled with sugar. Another drink filled with sugar would be all-natural juices which most people deem healthy when they are not. Out of all the dietary decisions you can make cutting down on sugary beverages can make an enormous difference in your oral health.

Recommended drinks to have instead would be, plain sparkling water, diluted juice, unsweetened tea and water. A summer habit some individuals need to break is chewing on ice. Chewing on ice can damage teeth and wear away at the enamel.

Dental Hygiene Tips for Summer

As you have heard on more than one occasion, you need to brush twice a day and floss once a day. What’s most important is to make sure you’re cleaning in between your teeth as well as getting a nice deep clean at least once a day. If you have teeth that are perfectly clean there is no way they can get sick. Remember to brush all the surfaces of your teeth including inside and out. When you are flossing you need to make sure you are reaching all the way down in between every tooth. If you are brushing or flossing too forcefully you can hurt your gums so be careful.

One of the most important dental tips not many people know is to remember to dry out your toothbrush. If you have a wet toothbrush then you have a breeding ground for bacteria. When you put a lot of time and effort into your oral health you want to make sure you are not wasting it. Leaving your toothbrush wet means, you are introducing more bacteria into your mouth the next time you use it.

An easy way to fix this is by taking your toothbrush out of its case and standing it up in a cup to drain away any moisture, this is convenient especially when traveling.

While you’re running around this summer running errands or traveling it’s very easy to forget things you may need. It is important to always have a backup dental care plan. Always keep extra supplies with you just in case, is another most important dental tips for summer. When you think you don’t have the supplies you need to brush your teeth, you do! You can brush with water if you do not have any toothpaste available. The most crucial part of taking care of your teeth is to get rid of the bacteria. Another important tip is to never share a toothbrush! The only time you should share a toothbrush is when you have alcohol to sterilize it.
